A material that works well on a simple garage roof may be awkward around an extension with several rooflights. A tile chosen for its colour may be unsuitable for the pitch or the existing structure. Compare the complete installation
The visible surface is only one part of a roof. Decking or battens, underlay, insulation, ventilation, fixings and flashings affect performance. Ask for these to be identified in the quotation, along with preparation, access and waste removal. A lower material price does not necessarily mean a lower complete project cost.
Know what the product paperwork means
A material’s expected lifespan, its manufacturer’s warranty and a contractor’s workmanship guarantee describe different things. Check the written terms for the system being installed and keep its product details. Future repairs are easier when the covering and compatible components can be identified.
