The guarantee should describe the work it covers
AP Roofing Sussex provides guaranteed work with the applicable scope and terms agreed for the individual job. There is no single duration published here because a small repair, temporary weatherproofing and a complete new roof are different pieces of work. Ask for the relevant written terms with your quotation. They should identify the work covered, its start date, duration, exclusions and the process for reporting a concern.
Workmanship cover
A workmanship guarantee relates to the installation or repair carried out, subject to its stated terms. On a local repair, it should identify the area and detail addressed. It should not be assumed to cover unrelated older material elsewhere on the roof. On a replacement, the scope may be wider, but retained chimneys, rooflights or other components still need to be identified. A clear description is more useful than a headline number of years without context.
Manufacturer and product warranties
A manufacturer’s warranty is separate from a contractor’s workmanship cover. It may relate to a particular product or system and can depend on registration, approved components, installation requirements and maintenance. Ask which document applies to the materials proposed and who is responsible for any registration. A product’s advertised lifespan is not the same as a promise that every installation is covered for that period.
Insurance-backed cover
Insurance-backed guarantees are separate arrangements with their own provider, policy and conditions. They should not be assumed to exist because a contractor is insured or because work is described as guaranteed. If such cover is offered for your project, request the policy details and certificate and check what event activates the cover. This website does not claim that every AP Roofing job includes an insurance-backed guarantee.
Temporary work and retained roof areas
Emergency weatherproofing is intended to reduce immediate water ingress until conditions allow a permanent repair. Its limits and follow-up should be explained separately. Similarly, a repair to one valley or flashing does not renew all the surrounding roof. Keeping the original scope makes it easier to understand whether a later problem concerns the completed work or a different part of the building.
Maintenance and later alterations
Keep gutters and outlets clear through suitable safe maintenance, and follow any system-specific care requirements. Before another trade adds equipment, penetrations or coatings, check how that work affects the roof and its cover. Unplanned changes can damage a sound installation or complicate a later claim. Retain maintenance records and photographs where practical.
What to keep at handover
Keep the accepted quotation, final invoice, product information, applicable guarantee documents and any relevant building-control completion records together. Note the date and extent of work and which older components were retained. These documents are useful for maintenance, a future property sale and any later enquiry about the installation.
